The Port Authority of Mazatlan is an entity of the federal government, which has a concession granted by the SCT, to make the functions of administration, promotion, construction, and development of the infrastructure of the port area, and to operate by itself or concession to third terminals and port facilities and services provided at the port.

The Port of Mazatlan is a major route for transporting goods by sea export and import in the north. It began operations in 1890 and was resized in 1991 as part of a project for the development of the region.

Mazatlan is Multi-Purpose Port in commercial, tourist, fishing and oil, of regional influence. Its operation is critical to the economy of northern Mexico to the management of agriculture, fisheries, automobiles and industrial goods.

 

Its business lines are integrated in the following areas: general cargo, containers, oil and oil products, cars and cruises. They are also facilities for the operation of ferries, shipyards, sport fleets, freezers, marine research and education.

In 2011 start of the tender for the Multipurpose Terminal, resulting winner the company Terminal Marítima Mazatlán (TMAZ) of SAAM Group.

On November 9, 2012 were given the tendered areas to the company TMAZ. The same day, they began operations in the port of services for the transfer of goods or merchandise; management services, storage and custody of foreign trade goods.

On December 2, 2020, the Federal Executive issued the order of reform of the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration, the Law on Navigation and Maritime Commerce and the Law of Ports", generating the change from Secretary in charge of SCT to Secretary of the Navy on June 5, 2021.
